A brief glimpse into village life in rural Mali

A brief glimpse into village life in rural Mali, surrounded by hot golden sandstone cliffs and shifting sands. From cooking the evening meal, feeding the livestock, to carrying water and working in the fields there is much hard work to be done. But there are friends and neighbours and many songs.
Because life is so hard, a lot of the day is spent on positive affirmations of life.

Morning greetings last from 7-9 am enquiring about everyone in the family and neighbourhood, then there are greetings at mid day (hot sun), work greetings to reduce your tiredness, greetings when the sun is slightly cooler at 4pm and blessings at night for a good night’s sleep and that you will wake up in the morning to see the following day.
